Agribusiness Future Alliance connecting the region’s agribusiness sector.

Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) is leading the way to support the agriculture industry and to improve food systems within the Mackay Whitsunday Issac region through the Agribusiness Future Alliance Project.

GW3 CEO Ms Kylie Porter said Ms Shireen Pisters will lead the Agribusiness Future Alliance Project, after her appointment to the role in late 2020.

Ms Pisters has worked across many fields within the agricultural industry for the past 20 years, working in the Northern Territory in the Central and Top End; Broome in Western Australia and South Australia.

Along with extensive on farm experience, Ms Pisters also holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science, Diploma of Horticulture and Project Management and a Certificate of Aquaculture.

“I have a drive for regional economic and social growth, and I thrive on continuity and collaboration. I look forward to supporting the future of agribusiness in the MIW region,” Ms Pisters said.

GW3 CEO Ms Kylie Porter said the Agribusiness Future Alliance Project is part of GW3 strategic plan to develop a robust agribusiness sector for the future.

Ms Porter said the project will focus on connecting regional export capabilities; identify and apply for funding that aligns with supply and value chain collaboration and improve the attraction and preservation strategies for the agricultural workforce.

“This project is about providing solutions to some of the common issues experienced across the agricultural sector and develop future education, skills and training needs, which is vital as the future of work continues to evolve in this sector.

“Part of the Agribusiness Future Alliance Project will also focus on the adoption of technology and Agtech across the region to improve productivity and efficiency.”

This week GW3 released its Agribusiness Future Alliance Project Survey to connect with agribusinesses across the region and to understand the opportunities and challenges within the sector.

Ms Porter said it was vital that all agribusiness, producers, and farmers take the time to fill out the survey to ensure a sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector.

“By taking part in this survey it will help give voice to the region’s agriculture sector and help identify and prioritise opportunities to increase the value of existing agricultural commodities,” Ms Porter said.
