The pace of industry transformation is unprecedented, so it’s vital that future skilling needs are addressed to make the most of these transformative opportunities.

GW3 is working with industry, education and training providers to ensure the region has the necessary education, skills and training in place to meet future demand of existing and emerging industries.

The Greater Whitsunday Region has a total workforce of over 97 thousand people – and we’re changing and evolving. Collaboration, coordination and planning for a new economic future is key.   

 

We’re growing our own through initiatives such as:

Stackable Career Education Program

>  Regionally focused career modules to assist students identify the current and emerging career opportunities and build job readiness (Years 7-10)

Educator Professional Learning Program

> To create a shared understanding, common language, build connections around the current and emerging career opportunities available in-region

Regional Jobs Committee Project

>  Designed to understand the education, skills and training that needs to be delivered in the region to match industry needs. The Regional Jobs Committee (RJC) project is an initiative of the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, which is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government.

Cross Industry Skilling Project

> Develop and pilot a framework to support workers to attain the required skills to allow them to transition between industries. Current focus: Mining to Construction

Qld Future Skills Partnership

> Collaboration between industry and training providers to fast track development of curriculum in areas (technology focused) where the national training system is not keeping up with the rate of change

Development of digital assets

>  For Greater Careers videos; reframe perception of regional opportunities

>  Regional video; marketing to retain and attract talent 

>  VR video; promote economic development opportunities in the region 

>  Regional news portal;  informs the opportunities provided by technology

> Develop skilling capability aligned to new career pathways into and through future occupations by a variety of existing and new methodologies

Ag Tech Cluster

> Development of a regional Agtech strategy, policy, and programs of operation

CQU/BMA Digital Innovation Skills Hive

> Leverage opportunities in advancing tech by building skills of the future workplace; launching March 2022 at Resources Centre of Excellence

Advanced Apprenticeship Program Co-design

> A new model of curriculum development to increase the digital professionals in region; launching mid 2022

Career Education Module Project

GW3 will continue to lead future education and jobs of tomorrow with the Career Education Module Project. This is initiative of the Mackay Regional Jobs Committee, which is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government.

GW3 will continue to lead future education and jobs of tomorrow with the Career Education Module Project. This is initiative of the Mackay Regional Jobs Committee, which is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government.

Designed to develop a stackable Career Education program for schools in the Greater Whitsunday region, the modules will leverage the data recently released under the RJC to assist students to identify the current and emerging work opportunities they could pursue in region.

  4. This free resource has been funded as part of the Mackay Regional Jobs Committee action plan, which is proudly supported and funded by Queensland Government.

These modules will help teachers in high schools, in the Greater Whitsunday region, support students in planning their futures in learning and work. The first module will target grade 10 to assist with the subject selection required prior to commencing senior years and is a free resource. Development of modules for years 7 through 9 is planned for 2022, as a result of requests from consultations held with industry and educators in the region.

The Regional Jobs Committee Project

The Regional Jobs Committee (RJC) project is an initiative of the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, which is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government. The project is designed to understand the education, skills and training that needs to be delivered in the region to match industry needs and ensure Greater Whitsunday workforces remain adaptable, resilient and employable in the face of change. This includes equipping regional workforces with the skills required to effectively participate in jobs impacted by technology and establishing in-region skills development opportunities to emerging future workforce growth areas.

Greater Foundations is a professional development event that is focused on 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Greater Foundations23 will be held on 3 March at the Resources Centre of Excellence.

You’ll hear directly from industry leaders about the skills and mindset needed for the jobs of today – and tomorrow.

Curriculum expert Nicole Dyson from Future Anything will empower you and your colleagues to unlock future-focused pathways that guide students from classrooms to ‘new’ careers in the Greater Whitsunday region.

This innovative event will open your mind and transform your thinking about the real-world opportunities for our region’s students – and the role you play in helping them reach their potential.
